Classic Home Rugs sources the best jute, coir, seagrass and sisal materials. We then create weaves that are as durable as they are good looking. Where do our Natural Fibers come from? Jute One of the oldest natural fibers. Jute comes from a tall, reedy plants that grow during the rainy season in India. The plants grow fast so the so the fibers are flexible. The jute fibers are spun into yarn of different gauges and density. Jute can be dyed and has a texture that is slightly harder than cotton, yet still soft to the hand. Coir [pronounced Koy-er] Comes from a coconut husk. The coconut must be soaked for about a year to soften the husk, then the fiber is extracted by “beating the pulp out of it”. Coir is naturally water-proof. Our Doormats and Overstitch Coir rugs are made of 100% coir.
